Oh my! This car melted my heart AND made it race! Not having been in the U.S. all that long, the RS is finally attainable. Ford kept the internet buzzing with announcements on this hot 5 passenger hatchback, to say that it set the internet on fire with its ‘drift mode’ announcement is an understatement, it was almost spontaneous combustion.
Often compared with the Volkswagen Golf R or the Subaru WRX STI, the Focus sizes up rather nicely with ample engine power that will rocket you down the road. The 2016 Ford Focus RS is powered by a turbo charged 2.3-liter four cylinder engine producing 350 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque. There are four driving modes to select: Normal, Sport, Track and Drift.
The Ford Focus RS comes equipped with 19-inch alloy wheels, xenon headlights, mirrors with turn signal indicators, fog lamps, rear spoiler, 60/40 split fold rear seat, ambient lighting, dual zone automatic climate control, tilt steering wheel that is leather wrapped, cruise control, front Recaro seats, push button start, AWD with dynamic torque vectorin, Sirius XM with Sony audio system and 10 speakers, 8 inch touch screen, and 2 USB ports. The Ford Focus has many safety features too, blind-spot mirrors, rear view camera, antilock disk brakes, stability and traction control, front side airbags, a driver knee airbag, and full length side curtain airbags.
The interior of the Ford Focus is just fun! From the ambient lighting to the Recaro seats, you should settle in, buckle up and hang on. The back seat passengers won’t find any extra legroom but unless you’re a kid, who wants the back seat anyway? Legroom is over-rated! This is a car that you really want to be in the driver’s seat.
The price tag of the Ford Focus is a bit steep but this is not your Ford Focus of yesterday. Sometimes fun comes with a price tag. The Ford Focus pictured here that we test drove is listed at $42,245 with a Nitrous Blue Quad-Coat exterior and charcoal black leather interior.
The Focus got us around town with 19 mpg and 25 mpg cruising down the highway for a combined 22 mpg.
