Bay Area based startup, Skully Helmets, has a great new solution for the future motorcycle heads-up display (HUD) market. Most other helmet makers or other parties are creating add-on solutions for the helmet you already own. However, Skully threw all of this out the window and started back at the scratch board and created a new fully integrated, standalone helmet system that internally incorporates the HUD display tech, in addition to other features.
Some of the features included are:
- Turn-by-turn navigation
- Smartphone integration
- Bluetooth connectivity
- 180-degree rear-view camera
Pretty cool eh? So what can make it even better? The company is releasing an SDK, or a software development kit. That means that computer nerdy developers everywhere will be able to create software that integrates and works with your helmet. Opening up the guts this way has proven a great way for parties to create amazing software add-ons.
The helmet features ECE and DOT certification as well as a anti-fog visor with quick-release.
So the big question – what will this cost? With add-on’s starting at $500 plus, this helmet could easily run $1k! In any case, this is a great look at what we are sure is a lot more to come!
