I don’t ever remember not liking this vehicle. I fell for the Land Cruiser when I realized it was so much more than your typical SUV. Once I drove it and experienced its off-road capability, I was sold.
The Toyota Land Cruiser has power. It has a 5.7-liter V8 engine that produces 381 hp and 401 lb-ft of torque. Now factor in the 8-speed Electronically Controlled automatic Transmission with intelligence, which adjusts shift logic depending on throttle input, vehicle speed and incline for efficient power delivery in a variety of conditions.
Off-road, the Land Cruiser is tenacious. The Land Cruiser goes wherever you take it. It easily crawls across everything and excels while doing so. You can move at your own pace with the press of a button; use Toyota’s Crawl Control system for traction control to crawl over any turf at your own pace. If you are purchasing this vehicle for off-road purposes, you won’t be disappointed but you will need to stick to wide open trails as the Land Cruiser has some broad shoulders. Speaking of broad shoulders, if your passengers do not have them, then this 8-passenger vehicle will accommodate you rather nicely.
With lots of color combinations for the interior/exterior the Land Cruiser is chock full of quality materials. I always enjoy having heated and ventilated seats but it’s the four-zone automatic climate control that I love. Front and second row passengers can control their own environment with the help of 28 vents located throughout the cabin. The steering wheel is also heated with leather trim, there you will find controls for the audio system, Multi-Information Display and Bluetooth wireless technology.
The cockpit of the Land Cruiser has a polished design that puts you in control of your next adventure. You’d be hard-pressed to find an SUV with these amenities, such as a 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with a 14-speaker JBL audio system AND a mini fridge in the center console!
The rear seats have an entertainment system where you can watch the latest movies or play video games on the two 11.6-inch screens. If you want a DVD player that’s an option too. Bring the comforts of home along the journey.
The Land Cruiser was surprisingly quick to accelerate and corners notably well. Providing an enjoyable ride, this SUV is a gentle giant that sustains the comfort zones for you and fellow passengers.
The 2018 Land Cruiser will hold all your gear if there are 4-5 passengers but more than that and your luggage space lessens.
Some say the fuel economy on the Land Cruiser is inadequate, but remember this is a sizable SUV, if you want better gas mileage you probably shouldn’t be in the market for an SUV of this proportion. The EPA’s test shows that the Land Cruiser gets 13 mpg/city and 18 mpg/highway for a combined 15 mpg.
Safety features include 10 airbags, knee airbags in the front and side airbags are even included in the second row. Also standard, a rearview camera, LED headlights, parking sensors, automatic high beams.
With all of the amenities and features that Toyota has integrated into the 2018 Land Cruiser, it is easy to see the value of this SUV. The one I test drove for the week was priced at $87,100.
